FNOL
First Notice of Loss — the initial report of a property damage claim filed with the insurance carrier.
ACV vs. RCV
Actual Cash Value (depreciated) vs. Replacement Cost Value (full replacement). Determines claim payout method.
Proof of Loss
A sworn statement submitted by the policyholder (or PA on their behalf) documenting the claimed amount of loss.
Appraisal
A dispute resolution process where each side hires an appraiser, and an umpire makes a binding decision on claim value.
Xactimate
Industry-standard estimating software used by adjusters and carriers to scope property damage repair costs.
Contingency Fee
The percentage (typically 10–20%) a public adjuster earns from the claim settlement. Paid only if the claim is successful.
Subrogation
The process where an insurance carrier recovers claim costs from the responsible third party after paying the policyholder.
Scope of Loss
The detailed assessment of property damage — what’s damaged, what needs repair/replacement, and estimated cost.
Why We Built These Resources for Public Adjusters
The public adjusting profession is growing fast — driven by increasing storm frequency, rising property values, and policyholders who are tired of being underpaid by their insurance carriers. But most public adjusters start their careers with a license and not much else: no CRM, no workflow templates, no business playbook, and no one telling them how to efficiently manage 20, 30, or 50+ open claims at once.
We built these resources because we’ve been there. The free claims tracker template is the spreadsheet we wished we had during our first year handling claims. The FNOL intake checklist covers every data point we learned the hard way to collect on the first call. And the Public Adjuster Business Guide is the roadmap from licensing to $500K revenue that didn’t exist when we started.
These free tools work on their own — but they work even better when paired with ClaimFlow’s claims management platform. The tracker spreadsheet shows you what’s possible; ClaimFlow automates it. The FNOL checklist tells you what to collect; ClaimFlow’s intake forms collect it automatically. The business guide teaches you how to scale; ClaimFlow’s pipeline and automations make it operationally possible.
Every resource on this page is free, no account required. If you find them useful, try ClaimFlow free for 14 days and see the difference between tracking claims manually and managing them with purpose-built software.
Ready to Go Beyond Templates?
Templates and checklists are a great start — but ClaimFlow automates everything they do manually. Pipeline tracking, follow-ups, document management, scheduling, and reporting — all in one platform.
